I always knew I didn’t completely agree with Carr but I didn’t have the words to express why. Carr argued that it hard to pay attention to reading because its not throwing different things in our faces. He took a cynical approach to it, almost insulting the newer generations. However, today during class we discussed why we have trouble paying attention to long, boring books, such as Carrs. Our mind works how the internet works, its makes random connections, it does not focus on one thing. The distractions of the internet is part of thinking; books are very static, the internet is very dynamic, just like our brains. This goes back to the division of authority, in a book the author has authority; however, when using the internet, you have the authority.
